EMA: Who are they and what do they do?
The Energy Market Authority (EMA) is a statutory board under the Ministry of Trade and Industry of the Government of Singapore.Their main goals are to ensure a reliable and secure energy supply and promote effective competition in the energy market of Singapore.
The EMA has 3 main roles, firstly they act as a power systems operator, which is the critical delivery infrastructure used in the supply of electricity to homes, offices and industries. Secondly, they are an industry developer, by taking a proactive role in developing the industry by advancing manpower capabilities, catalyzing innovations and establishing thought leadership. Lastly, they are an industry regulator, regulating Singapore’s electricity and gas industries as well as district cooling services to promote fair competition while protecting consumers’ interests.
How does the EMA relate to us?
Additionally, the EMA issues licenses to electrical and installation workers, also known as Licensed Electrical Workers (LEWs). This license issued by the EMA is required for LEWs to to carry out certain electrical installations and other tasks.
As an electrical engineering firm, our LEWs are EMA licensed to provide Electrical Engineering and LEW services in Singapore. This license allows our LEWs to to take charge of the electrical Installations of factories, industrial plants, commercial and residential buildings. Our LEW shall carry out an inspection of your electrical installation to ensure that it is safe to use or operate before submitting an application for the electrical installation licence (new applications or to renew EMA license) on your behalf.
